Jackson Fuhrman | President
Jackson Fuhrman is currently a 2nd year Master’s student in the International Politics program at American University. His focus is on transnational crime and corruption, with a more specific interest in countering the finance of terrorism and counter-threat finance in general. Jackson is currently employed as a Transportation Security Officer and a Research Assistant for Professor Venturelli at American University. Outside of his professional development, Jackson enjoys watching and playing all sports, playing saxophone and going to the many sites and museums DC has to offer.
Kylie Mason | Vice President of Communications
Kylie Mason is a first-year graduate student hailing from San Luis Obispo, CA (A.K.A. Happiest City in the US!). She graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a degree in Political Science. Her research interests revolve around security & intelligence, political theory, educational policy, as well as studying art as a political variable. She also maintains a regional interest in European and Russian politics. Outside the classroom, Kylie enjoys baking, dancing, photography, traveling and opera. Not only is Kylie our V.P. of communications, but she’s also met Britney Spears in person during the “Baby One More Time” tour.
Omar Qureshi | Vice President of Events
Omar Qureshi is a first-year graduate student, originally from Los Angeles, CA. He graduated in 2011 from the University of California, San Diego. His main research interests concern governance and development issues in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and North African regions. Omar is also a big fan of the Indie/Alternative music scene. Kathy Duong | Social Media Manager
Kathy Duong is a first-year graduate student straight out of Los Angeles, CA. She did her undergraduate at the University of California, San Diego, as a Political Science major and Law and Society minor. Her academic interests involve examining the role and strength of international organizations such as the United Nations. She is also a big fan of fashion and collects Vogue September issues. As Kathy puts it, September is the “it” month for fashion magazines.
Brendan Connell | Secretary & Blog Manager
Brendan Connell is a first-year graduate student representing Long Island, NY. He graduated from Binghamton University in Political Science with a concentration in Global & International Affairs. His research interests deal with the economic causes of violent conflict, particularly concerning how commerce can foster or obstruct peace. In his free time, Brendan enjoys playing recreational sports and cooking up delicious meals. He’s also a huge fan of comedy, having an especial infatuation with the TV show, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
Brendan Dunn | Events Coordinator
Brendan Dunn is a first-year graduate student from Wantagh, NY. He attended SUNY Buffalo for his undergraduate studies, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in International Politics. Currently, his research interests include deterrence, bargaining models of war, and transnational terrorism.
Stephanie Miguel | Events Coordinator
Stephanie Miguel is a first-year graduate student and proud to be GPSA’s “foreigner” from Toronto, Canada. She received her undergraduate degree from Hamilton College as a double major in Communications and World Politics, with a focus on International Law and Organization. Her academic interests include public international law, policy-making, geopolitics, and diplomacy. In addition to her studies, she keeps busy as the Program Coordinator for the International Affairs Research Institute at SIS. Stephanie is an avid ice hockey player. She played a season of professional hockey in Russia after graduating from Hamilton.
Dylan Kean | Treasurer
Dylan Kean is a first-year graduate student who graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with a B.A. in Political Science and Minor in Chinese and Asian Studies. His research interests zero in on U.S. China relations, security issues on the Korean Peninsula, and the workings of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). Dylan actually holds dual US-Canadian citizenship. In his spare time, he enjoys watching Jean-Claude Van Damme movies and freestyle fantasy writing.
